Cobolt Artist Colony
Christie Best Pearson Anderson will be the instructor. The Colony is July 13th to July 17th. Held at the Golden Age Club, 22 Argentite St in Cobalt. Instruction will cover such areas as drawing from life; from photos; perspective, composition; value scale; lost and found edges; negative drawing, various other techniques; regular graphite pencils; matt graphite pencils; tinting graphite drawings; tinted graphite pencils; water soluble graphite pencils; graphite powder. There might be a little bit of watercolour paint used.

This is the week to deliver your artwork to me, Beth Jackson, 405
Lakeside Dr. North Bay.
Please have it wrapped in a bag or paper with your name on it. I will
inspect your work with you to make sure it is properly wired for
hanging and not oversized. Maximum size, including frame, is 33x38".

A sticker, declaring your work's originality and signed by you, will
be put on the back of your work.
70th NOAA Juried Expo and Meeting
September 9 to 12 in Little Current on Manitoulin Island. Come to enjoy the art as the jury selects what will be in the Northern Ontario Art Association touring show for 2026/ 2027
Taking Good Pictures of Pictures
Join Rob Effinger at the Alex Dufresne Gallery and learn some techniques to take better camera photos of your artwork! Rob has been taking pictures since his high school days when he would develop his own film. He has taught adult courses at Conestoga College, and several sessions at a photography club he led. The session would cover topics relevant to people who use all brands of cameras and phones.

Setting up the Shot
Composition and Context
Smartphone and Digital Camera Tips
Bring your cellphone or camera for some hands-on activities. Cost $10 to the Alex Dufresne Gallery.

Negative to Positive - the Swiss Cheese Effect
CARENIE LITTLE presents "NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE (THE SWISS CHEESE EFFECT)"
When: Saturday March 28, 2026
Time: 9 am (to set up) - to 4:00 pm (clean up by 4:30 pm.)
Cost: $50.00
Where: Emmanuel United Church Hall, 395 Lakeshore Dr., North Bay
What: This workshop explores negative space and how it defines and enhances the positive. With visuals, demos, and exercises, using black and white and then a limited palette, we will learn about this important concept. Colour theory and patterning will also be incorporated. To finish, we will use what we’ve learned to work on our own composition using our media of choice.
Essentials: sketch pad, pencils, eraser, ruler, black Sharpie pen (the no-bleed kind if possible), coloured pencils in red, blue, yellow, grey, white.
Optionals: pastels, acrylics, or watercolours and the paper, canvas, brushes, etc to go with. Reference photos (from books, magazines, or our own) with interesting negative spaces, such as plants, people, landscapes, buildings.
